Broadway League Conference 2012

Truly nice work if you can get it.

I have been lucky enough to attend the Broadway League Spring Road Conference for the last four years. It’s a remarkable week in New York City—Markets from all over the country come to the city to meet with our New York counterparts and one another—Producers, Press Reps, Design Firms—We all get together to talk about the business. What’s working, what doesn’t work, what new, what we’re talking about, what our patrons are telling us, and on and on and on.

It’s the most incredible week out of my year. It’s a moment when you can take in a huge breath, explore the bigger picture, and find ways to be better at what we do.

We all love what we do. It’s remarkable to spend a week with a group of people who are so incredibly passionate about Broadway.

As involved as I am right now, I wish I could do even more. Working on national tour design for WAR HORSE, MARY POPPINS, BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, maintaining playbills for more than half a dozen shows, not to mention the day job—it’s not enough. I want unlimited time. I want to create more. I want to be involved in show identity and creation. It was an awesome week, and it made me into even more of a workhorse.

It really is nice work if you can get it. It might be a corny reference, but it’s so completely true.

This summer, I will update this website more. The big picture feeling I get after something like this is something that I want to expand on.

I saw a lot of great theater last week. Such a fantastic, pure art. I can’t imagine working in any other business. I truly feel blessed to be part of it all.
